Q. What is the best
age to start children skiing?
A. Most children are ready for group lessons at age 4. Younger children can
be prepped for skiing by extensive snow play.
Q. At
what age can my child take snowboard lessons?
A. Beginning in the 2012 season we are offering a special young snowboarders beginning program for 5-7 year olds. In the Rad Riders Program, children will use Burton Learn-to-Ride equipment, rented from Maple Ski Ridge.
Q. I have a very strong,
agile 3-year old who is large for his age. Can I enter him
in your Ski Tykes program?
A. NO. We do not accept 3 year olds in the Ski Tykes program. Even as little
as 3 months can make a difference in the development of childrens motor
skills. We can offer you private lessons for your 3 year old.
Q. My 8 year old is
a beginner who skied for 5 days last year. Can she go into
the Ski Stars program?
A. Your daughter is actually now a novice skier rather
than a total beginner. The Ski Stars program is designed for
6 & 7 year olds who have never skied or younger children
who need refreshers. Your child will learn more in an "advanced
beginner" class with children her own age.
Q. How well will my
child be able to ski after 7 lessons?
A. All individuals progress at different rates. Any child
who is athletically active (especially soccer, skating, or in-line
skating) will progress more rapidly. Also, as with any other
lessons your child may be taking, practice is as important to
progress as are the lessons.
Q. I am 59. Am I too
old to learn to ski?
A. Anyone who is in relatively good physical condition can learn to ski.
Q. Do I have to stay
with my child during the lesson?
A. Children normally focus and learn better without parents watching. We
encourage you to ski or ride with your children before or after the lessons,
allowing them to focus on their instructor while in class.
